Kulli Baker's: My Story Around Horses

Kulli is a young, passionate horse lover who has always held a special sentiments for horses. She shared with Rise Equine team her story with horses, and she hopes to achieve her dreams around horses and fulfill her love for these wonderful creatures.

It all started when living in England, Manchester, my love for horses began. I was around 3 to 4 years old when I realized I had a special connection and used that to my advantage seeing as I had great fondness for them. Growing up, my Aunties always found the time to take me to the fields to watch them be their truest self and share love I never knew existed. I watched in awe. I never understood the adrenaline I got by just watching them, but it comforted me in a way I thought was impossible.

By the time I was 6 I had come to live out in Saudi Arabia, and it wasn’t until I was 12, I started to get more familiar with horses. My sisters and I would go twice a week for personal lessons with our closest family friend whom we knew since childhood. The excitement we felt on the way the stables was incredible, we would talk none stop about what horse we’d be riding and who was our favorite to ride in hoping the other sibling wouldn’t with them. I remember seeing many riders at different levels with their horses and always thought how amazing it was to see them work as one while having that understanding of them. With every horse that I rode, they taught me so much about myself and how not only to look at things from my perspective and to have a good amount of patience I never thought I had. At the end of my lesson, I had the responsibility to walk them back to their stalls and wash them down and thank them for the days ride. I had surprises of going on trial rides, and that’s when I knew I was ready for something big like that, and it was the most exciting thing that happened to me because I knew it meant connecting to the horse on a more spiritual level and knowing the horse better. My feelings were all over the place with having my own horse and knowing what we were capable of, the main feeling we had was trust with each other.

Over time I thought how lucky I was to be in the riding community and be around many fantastic riders that can teach me so much from their experiences. I connect with horses whether it’s me being in a lesson or next to one. Emotionally I feel attached to them in many ways I fail to explain. Being blessed with such creatures in my life I couldn’t be any happier than I am today. When being around these amazing animals, I get lost in emotions I never thought had, they bring out the best I can be. It wasn’t until recently I met many amazing riders that I get inspired by and it continues to push me further and further to what I dream of becoming.
